“Don’t adapt to the energy in the room. Influence the energy in the room.”
Last week, we talked about something important: whether you realize it or not, you are influencing the people around you.
This week, let’s talk about one of the most powerful ways that influence actually shows up.
It’s not through authority.
It’s not through control.
And it’s not through having all the answers.
It’s through perspective.
One of the greatest ways you can lead others is by helping them think differently.
Think About Someone Who Shifted Your Perspective
Take a moment and reflect.
Who in your life helped you see something in a new way?
Not someone who argued with you or forced their opinion on you, but someone who expanded your thinking. Someone who helped you look at a situation differently and, because of that shift, changed how you felt or acted.
Maybe they helped you:
That kind of influence is subtle, but it’s powerful.
And you have the ability to do the same for others.
Most People React to Energy. Leaders Redirect It.
Every environment carries energy, at work, at home, in friendships, even in casual conversations.
Stress. Frustration. Excitement. Fear. Hope.
Most people unconsciously mirror whatever is present. If the room feels tense, they tighten up. If the conversation turns negative, they pile on.
But leaders do something different.
They pause.
They choose.
And then they redirect.
Instead of feeding the anxiety, they ask a grounding question.
Instead of focusing on what’s wrong, they gently shift toward what’s possible.
Instead of amplifying the problem, they begin exploring solutions.
It doesn’t require grand speeches. Often, it’s as simple as asking:
“What’s one thing we can control right now?”
“What might this situation be teaching us?”
“How could we approach this differently?”
Those small shifts can completely change the trajectory of a conversation, and sometimes a life.
You Don’t Have to Have All the Answers
Leading others to think differently doesn’t mean you always know the perfect response.
It doesn’t mean you have every solution figured out.
And it certainly doesn’t mean you never feel uncertainty yourself.
It simply means you are intentional about how you engage with what’s happening.
You influence thinking when you:
You don’t need to dominate a conversation.
You don’t need to convince anyone.
You simply need to ask better questions and hold a steadier perspective.
And when you consistently do that, people begin to trust your influence, not because you control the room, but because you elevate it.

Notice where conversations tend to drift in your world.
Is there negativity that goes unchecked?
Is there fear that gets reinforced?
Is there blame that could be replaced with ownership?
Choose one moment this week to redirect the thinking.
Not aggressively.
Not arrogantly.
Just intentionally.
Because the way people think shapes the way they act.
And the way they act shapes the results they create.
