Worry Lies - Part 2: You Can’t Handle It

“Worry does not empty tomorrow of its sorrows. It empties today of its strength.” — Corrie ten Boom

Welcome back to our Worry Lies series, where we’re uncovering the false stories worry tells and replacing them with truth, courage, and confidence.

Last week, we tackled the first lie: “The worst is going to happen.”
If you missed it, you can read Part 1 here

Today, we’re focusing on the second lie: “You can’t handle it.”

The Lie: You Can’t Handle It

This worry feeds on the belief that you’re not strong enough, smart enough, capable enough — or just plain enough.

And that, my friend, is a lie.

The truth? You are far more resilient than you realize. You’ve already handled difficult things before challenges, heartbreaks, failures, and you’re still here, growing stronger because of them.

As humans, we’re wired for growth. We were built to adapt, to learn, and to rise.

The problem isn’t that you can’t handle life; it’s that you sometimes forget how capable you already are.

Focus on Your Strengths, Not Your Limitations
When worry takes hold, it tries to pull your attention toward everything you can’t do. But courage grows when you focus on what you can.

Here’s a simple way to shift your focus:

1. ) Make a Strength List.

Write down your skills, knowledge, and experiences that could help you handle whatever challenge you’re facing. Include past wins, even small ones.
2.) Acknowledge Your Support System.

List the people, tools, or resources you can lean on if you need help.
Because here’s another lie worry tells: that you have to do everything alone.
You don’t.

Sometimes the bravest thing you can do is ask for help.

Ask Powerful Questions
Your mind is like a search engine; it finds answers to the questions you ask. So if your internal dialogue is full of negative statements like “I can’t handle this,” it’s time to turn them into questions that empower you.

Try these instead:

  • How can I handle this?
  • What strengths or resources can I use right now?
  • Who could help me navigate this?

These positive questions shift your focus from fear to solutions — and that shift is where courage lives.

The Truth: You Can Handle It
When worry whispers that you can’t, remind yourself that you already have — again and again.
You’ve faced uncertainty before. You’ve overcome fear. You’ve grown through difficulty.

And you’ll do it again.

Because the truth is: you don’t have to know it all. You just need to believe in your ability to figure things out.

Your Call to Action:
This week, make your Strength List and when worry shows up, read it.
