“Without gas in your car, it doesn’t matter if you know where you’re going. You won’t reach your destination. Likewise, without mental and physical energy, you probably won’t reach your goals either.” ~MW
Let’s face it, we all have the same 24 hours in a day. But some people manage to get so much more done than others. You look at them and wonder how they do it. Or more specifically, you may wonder how they have the energy to do it all!
See the reality is, often it’s not that we need more time to get things done but rather, more energy.
Do you have enough energy to get everything you want accomplished each day or do you find that you are so tired by mid-day that it’s hard to focus and finish the day strong?
The best laid plans will not come to fruition if you don’t have the mental and physical energy needed to take action toward achieving them. That’s why high levels of energy are a key element to high levels of productivity and success.
So if you find that you often lose steam and can’t finish your day as strongly as you started it (which consequently leads to projects that get pushed back or never completed) then it’s time to figure out how to increase your energy levels and keep the tank full.
The good news of all this? Well, even though you can’t actually get more than 24 hours in your day, you can generate more energy in those hours by shifting some of your daily habits. When you do this and are able to generate consistently high levels of mental and physical energy, to keep your energy tank full, you will be able to get more done and in turn, have more opportunity for greater success.
Just think… How much more could you accomplish if you could keep your energy tank full and maintain that high level of energy consistently?
Getting more done in a day doesn’t just require time, it requires energy. The more energy you have, the more productive you can be. The opposite is also true of low energy. The lower your energy, the less efficient or effective you’ll be with your time. And unfortunately, when that happens, it is like a vicious cycle that just builds day after day. Eventually we end up with more to do and more overwhelm and exhaustion because of it. It can become difficult to have enough physical and mental energy to get it all done. Which is why energy is such an important piece to productivity success. You’ve got to fill your physical and mental energy tanks if you want to set yourself up to get more accomplished.
So my action for you this week is simple, pay attention to your level of energy throughout the day and notice how it fluctuates. Then assess how that fluctuation is affecting your productivity. What if you didn’t need more time to get things done but rather, more energy? How would that change the structure of your days? What daily habits would you need to change so you could have the energy you needed to be highly productive all day, every day? Commit to that change today and start consistently filling your energy tank. I can assure you, you’ll be pleasantly surprised at how much more you get accomplished in less time.
