"Trust yourself. Trust your path." ~unknown
Ever worry about the future? I know, dumb question, right? I don’t know anyone who at some point or another… sometimes or maybe always… worries about the future. It happens. So, I want to tell you about an experience I had recently in hopes that it might serve as a reminder to you that you don’t have to be afraid of the future.
See, I’ve been losing sleep lately. Yes, maybe it’s my unruly midlife hormones fluctuating up and down but on top of that, it’s the worry and fear I’ve been feeling for the future. Now don’t get me wrong, I’ve also been feeling a great deal of excitement for the future. Our family is on the cusp of some big transitions....
My youngest daughter, in her second year of college, has been learning the not so fun parts of adulting and with every year that goes by, she gets closer to full adulthood with all it's responsibilities. The uncertainty of where she’ll live, and her career options are just the tip of the icebe...
“The secret of change is to focus all of your energy not on fighting the old, but on building the new.” ~Socrates
As we come to the end of our series on loving your work, if you know you don’t love what you do, and can’t seem to get the passion back, perhaps you realized it’s time for a change. I know it can be scary to put yourself out there, especially if you’re not sure you have what it takes to change, but you don’t have to be afraid of career change. You just need to build a plan so you can be prepared to put your best foot forward. Â
Last week I shared some valuable components that you will want to gain clarity on before considering a career change. No use changing if you don’t know why you’re changing or what you really want. (Missed it? Read it here.) Once you’ve gotten that clarity, you’re ready to build your plan and take a leap into a new career.
Build an understanding of the market.
It’s important to build an understanding of the market you want to work in so you ...
“In a chronically leaking boat, energy devoted to changing vessels is more productive than energy devoted to patching leaks. – Warren Buffet
If after last week’s post, you’ve taken the fear goggles off and can now see clearly that it’s time for a career change… that’s great!
I know it can be scary but once you make that decision it can be much easier than you think, especially when you go into your career transition with clarity and confidence. Plus, I’m willing to bet you’ll look back later and be glad you did it. So, in this post, we'll discuss how to find clarity (especially when feeling overwhelmed by your options) and then next week I’ll share some important steps you need to take before leaping into a new career.
Clarity Builds Confidence and Gives Direction
When you know what you want, and why you want it, you can be sure that your efforts will be focused on bringing the results they were meant to—and that's going to make all the difference in helping you get from wher...
“If you work hard at a job you hate, imagine what you could do at a job you love?”  ~Michelle Weimer
As we continue this conversation about loving your work, it amazes me how many people not only don’t love their jobs, they don’t even like them. Work is where you spend at least a third of your day. Why would you continue to allow yourself to be miserable, day after day in a job you hate?Â
The short answer - most people feel stuck and can't see a way out...
I talk to so many people who feel that they are stuck and can’t change careers even though they are miserable doing what they are doing. And I’ve had numerous clients hire me because of this exact problem. They feel like their career is going nowhere, they don’t really love or even like what they do but yet, they feel trapped into staying because they have bills to pay, they don’t want to lose their benefits, they don’t know what else they want to do, how to do it, etc.
The thing is, all the above reasons focus on the problem...
“Without gas in your car, it doesn’t matter if you know where you’re going. You won’t reach your destination. Likewise, without mental and physical energy, you probably won’t reach your goals either.” ~MW
Let’s face it, we all have the same 24 hours in a day. But some people manage to get so much more done than others. You look at them and wonder how they do it. Or more specifically, you may wonder how they have the energy to do it all!
See the reality is, often it’s not that we need more time to get things done but rather, more energy.
Do you have enough energy to get everything you want accomplished each day or do you find that you are so tired by mid-day that it’s hard to focus and finish the day strong? Â
The best laid plans will not come to fruition if you don’t have the mental and physical energy needed to take action toward achieving them. That’s why high levels of energy are a key element to high levels of productivity and success.
So if you find that you often lose st...
"To me, beauty is about being comfortable in your own skin. It’s about knowing and accepting who you are."  ~Ellen DeGeneres
I saw a post on social media one day about a 60 year old swimsuit model. I found her so inspiring because she was changing the standard definition of beauty by who she was showing up as - not necessarily by how she looked physically but by her inner radiance. It was obvious that she was comfortable in her own skin and that’s not easy to do… especially with the inner critic always chattering in your head. Reminding you of all the ways you aren’t good enough - repeating the self-limiting beliefs that you learned early on in your life and have continued to believe.
Regardless of how you look on the outside – it’s who you are on the inside that truly determines your beauty. But here’s the kicker – who you believe yourself to be is who you will be. Which is why it is so very important to see your inner beauty, be comfortable in your own skin and let it shine out...
The rhythm of life is intricate but orderly, tenacious but fragile. To keep that in mind is to build the key to survival. ~ Shirley Hufstedler
This week is the last of our mini-series on letting go of tension by living with intention… And I am so excited to share these last three big ideas with you because these three are foundational game changers when it comes to regular self-care. Once again, just like the other concepts I’ve shared thus far, they are so simple, yet so profound and powerful. These three concepts, when utilized effectively, can help you implement a consistent self-care practice that will have you feeling more balanced and peaceful in your daily life no matter what you might be facing.
Now of course, the first two parts of this mini-series were all about incorporating small self-care activities into your life to help you eliminate symptoms of stress, anxiety, overwhelm, etc. But keep in mind that perhaps the best way to eliminate tension isn’t just to manage the...
“Be like a tree. Stay grounded. Connect with your roots. Turn over a new leaf. Bend before you break. Enjoy your unique natural beauty. Keep growing.” ~ Joanne Rapits
Last week I shared three of my favorite ways to let go of tension and live with intention through super simple and quick daily self-care practices. I hope you gave them a try because this week, as promised, I want to share a few more.
The great thing about the concepts that I’m sharing with you through this mini-series is that they do not require big changes or much time. The truth is - small shifts can produce big results. If you commit to consistently being intentional with even a few of these simple practices, I believe you’ll be pleasantly surprised at the profound difference they can create within you.
With that being said, let me share three more powerful but simple ways to intentionally practice self-care and relieve tension: Â
Ground Yourself – This can be done in conjunction with the ideas I gave you last...
“No matter how long the winter, spring is sure to follow.”  ~Proverb
Living in Colorado we have a saying, “If you don’t like the weather, wait five minutes, it’ll change.” And springtime here is certainly guaranteed to make that statement ring true. It’s this time of the year when one day it can be a beautiful warm, sunny, spring day and the next - a huge storm bringing freezing temps and several inches of snow. It’s during this time that we start to feel like winter will never end. But, just like this week’s quote, no matter how long the winter, spring is sure to follow.
So, what does this have to do with Masterful Mindsets and more importantly, life?
Well, it is a sign of hope! And not just hope for warmer days. But hope for new beginnings. It’s a reminder that in the dark, dreary, cold spaces of your life, you can still have hope that no matter how long that period lasts, a new season of life will come and with it, new growth, promises of warmth and renewed beauty in your lif...
"You must have control of the authorship of your own destiny. The pen that writes your life story must be held in your own hand." - Irene C. Kassorla
Everyone has a story. For some it might feel like a mystery, a fairy tale, a drama, a love story, fiction, or fact. But perhaps what's most important...Is it holding you back?
I repeatedly hear "stories" from people about why they are like they are and why it has kept them stuck. They refer to all this as the "reasons" why they are stuck or struggling, why they haven't made changes or haven’t succeeded at their life’s dreams. But basically, what they really are - are the excuses that they've become comfortable with so that they don't have to step out of their comfort zone and change.
So I ask you, do you often find yourself saying things like:Â
"Oh that's just the way I am.” Â
"That's how I was raised."Â
"My parents were this way, therefore, I'm..."Â
Do you find yourself launching into a big "story" when something doesn't work out ...
