âWhatever goal you give to your subconscious mind, it will work night and day to achieve it.â Â ~Jack Canfield
Last week I challenged you to begin the practice of visualization to be able to clearly create your future identity because without having a clear vision for your future, it can be difficult to create it. Did you give it a try? What? You forgot. It was hard to start. You got busy. You just didnât have time. HmmmâŚ
Sure, Iâve heard all those reasons (aka excuses)đ before.
But what if I told you that research shows, you can dramatically increase your odds of creating your ideal future by practicing visualization in as little as 10 minutes a day? Do you have 10 minutes to spare for the sake of making your dreams a reality?
Thatâs right⌠While in order to get the best results, it is vital to be consistent with a daily visualization practice, you donât need to spend all day thinking about your goals for visualization to be effective. In fact, I donât actually recommend spen...
âNothing changes, until you change. Everything changes, once you change.â ~Julian Lennon
Earlier this week was Groundhog Day here in the US⌠the day when we wait to see if a groundhog will see his shadow or not and then predict how much longer winter will last, as a result of the outcome. Kind of a zany (and not very accurate) event, but one that is rooted in tradition. As a matter of fact, Punxsutawney Phil has been giving his annual forecast in Pennsylvania since 1887.
This quirky tradition also became the setting for a movie back in the early 90âs called Groundhog Day. Where the main character, played by Bill Murray, gets stuck reliving the same day (Groundhog Day) over and over until he can get it right. After resisting his situation for some time, he eventually changes his attitude and then starts to make changes in his actions each day so that he can change the outcome of the day and eventually get what he wants. Â
Do you ever get the feeling that every day is Groundhog Da...
"The best self-help must always begin with self-compassion." ~ Margie Warrell
Last month I confessed to you that I am a recovering perfectionist. And like so many of the people I work with who are high performers, we do tend to walk a fine line between having a desire to perform at a high level and trying to be perfect. But striving for progress rather than striving for perfection can actually free you to be your best self rather than getting paralyzed by the pressure of perfectionism.
It is my hope that after reading the article I wrote on this topic last month, you decided to make the shift with me. But, now what? Maybe youâve tried and then found yourself back in old patterns if being hyper-critical of yourself, feeling like you must prove your worth, overachieving and striving to be perfect once again⌠Â
If thatâs true, then this article is for you because now itâs time to help yourself step into this new way of being, beginning with having self-compassion. Yes, as our quote...
âLife is a matter of choices, and every choice you make makes you.â Â ~John C. Maxwell
Have you seen those quick quizzes on social media? (If you follow me on Instagram, youâve probably seen them on my story periodically.) They list a bunch of things and then ask you if youâd choose this or that. Itâs usually something fun and cute like âCoffee or Teaâ, âMountains or Beachâ â but what if there was a this or that quiz that required you to dig a little deeper for the answers?
Over the last few weeks, Iâve been asking you to choose between Courage or Comfort, Hope or Fear, and Stuck or Striving. Howâs that for a this or that quiz? When you really think about the choices you are making in your life, do you like what you are choosing? I get it, itâs not as fun as choosing âCake or Pieâ but its choices like these that can truly transform your life.
So, let me ask you, what choices have you been making lately that are dictating the outcomes of your life? And maybe more importantly, are ...
âThe truth will set you freeâ ~ John 8:32
As we come to the end of this series on the lies that worry tells us, itâs important to note that worry and fear are two different things. Sometimes fear creates worry and sometimes, worry can create fear. For example, the fear of the unknown can cause us to worry about the future. And worrying about the future can stoke the fire of fear, making it grow out of control and keeping us from ever stepping forward into the future we want to create.
I could go on and on about the differences between worry and fear but that's a much bigger topic, so I wonât get into that today. For now, just keep in mind that there will always be things we fear. And thatâs okay. True fear isnât always within our control, and it is sometimes necessary in order to keep us safe. But worry is within our control and it rarely, if ever serves a purpose. So, if we donât want our fear to paralyze us and hold us back, then it is to our benefit to keep worry quiet or bett...
âEven the darkest night will end and the sun will rise.â ~ Victor Hugo
In the past few years, our world has become increasingly filled with worry and fear. However, I did not create this series solely because of the uncertainty and turmoil that has ensued since this decade began. Because the truth is, worry is always there, ready to pounce and leaving us feeling as if we canât possibly breathe from the weight of the worry in our hearts. We may never be completely exempt from worry. But we also must remember that more times than not, worry lies. (So, if you missed any of the series thus far, feel free to click on each lie below to catch up.)
As a refresher, the three common lies worry tells us that Iâve been examining in this series are:
Moving forward, today I am continuing our series on the three big lies that worry tells us, where those lies often come from and most importantly, how to overcome t...
âWorry does not empty tomorrow of its sorrows. It empties today of its strength.â ~ Corrie ten Boom
Today, I am continuing our series on the lies that worry tells us, where those lies often come from and most importantly, how to overcome them so you can have courage to step boldly into your future.
Three of the most common lies are:
If you missed part one, of this series, where I discussed Lie #1, you can CLICK HERE to read it.
Letâs take the second lie now, âYou canât handle it.â This worry feeds off of the fear that the process of doing something will be painful or too difficult in some way. It often stems from believing that we are not good enough, smart enough, capable enough, strong enough -whatever enough. That is a lie! But I'm here to tell you the truth...
Without me even knowing you â I believe you can handle it! Why, because as humans, we are resilient. We are stronger, smarter and â MO...
"There is only one cause of unhappiness; the false beliefs you have in your head, beliefs so widespread, so commonly held, that it never occurs to you to question them." ~ Anthony de Mello
I once heard someone say that worry tells lies. And I have no doubt that's true. Heck, I've experienced it myself and I've seen it happen with others on countless occasions. In particularly, worry tends to tell 3 HUGE lies:
Think about it, when you worry, what are you worrying about? What is your inner voice repeating over and over? Sure, it might not be worded exactly like the statements above but if you break down the chatter going on in your head, Iâd be willing to bet that most of the time, it would be a version of these three beliefs at the core. And when these deep underlying beliefs bubble up, they can not only bring in worry and fear but also create a lot of unnecessary anxiety and stress.
So how do you h...
