Journey to Joy

"The journey to joy begins with acceptance." ~ Margaret Feinberg

Ever have one of those days when nothing seems to go right? Kinda makes you cranky, doesn't it? But what if you just accepted it and laughed it off? Could it be possible to find joy even when life seems to be unraveling?

Let’s get one thing straight about this week’s quote, it does not mean that you should settle for whatever or wherever you are in life. But rather, I believe it means that once you face where you are with acceptance of the situation – whether good or bad – you can put your energy into adapting and advancing. In other words, instead of wasting time and energy staying stuck in the problem, you just acknowledge it and then you can begin to shift your focus to the solution and moving forward into a more joyful life.

Let’s face it, life does not always turn out exactly as we’d like. There are plenty of mistakes, disappointments and failures all along the way....

The Slippery Slope from Service to Sacrifice

“The step from service to sacrifice can be a slippery slope.”  ~Michelle Weimer

I hope you took some time last week to complete the journaling exercise about whether you were more of a People Pleaser or someone who suffered from Superwoman Syndrome. Maybe you aren’t either. (Congratulations!) Or maybe you discovered you were both…

My bet is that you do have superwoman tendencies. In today’s fast paced and demanding world, it’s so easy to get caught up in constantly striving to accomplish more and more, as perfectly as possible, without ever asking for help. We “superwomen” want to prove we can do it all but sadly it is often at the expense of ourselves.

I know a lot about Superwoman Syndrome because not only do many of my clients deal with this, but I myself am a recovering superwoman. Yep, I admitted it years ago and yet I still find myself periodically getting caught up in the struggle. The step from service to sacrifice can...

The Gift: Freedom to be Yourself

“The freedom to be yourself is a gift only you can give yourself. But once you do, no one can take it away.” – Doe Zantamata

Yesterday was the 4th of July, where here in the USA, it’s a time to celebrate our freedom. But for many people, they feel most captive, within. They don’t feel they have the freedom to be themselves. So instead of boldly owning who they are and proudly sharing their creative expression of self, they pretend to be someone they are not. Or they hide in the shadows - never bringing their gifts and talents to light. (Maybe you can relate.)

Think about this for a minute… How free are you to be yourself, your true self? In everything you do and all your interactions with others, are you expressing yourself freely? If not, why?

It’s easy to blame others for your lack of freedom and I get it, societal norms can be a real bitch to break free from! But perhaps you hold yourself back more than anyone. Maybe it’s...

Beauty From The Inside Out

"To me, beauty is about being comfortable in your own skin. It’s about knowing and accepting who you are."  ~Ellen DeGeneres

I saw a post on social media one day about a 60 year old swimsuit model. I found her so inspiring because she was changing the standard definition of beauty by who she was showing up as - not necessarily by how she looked physically but by her inner radiance. It was obvious that she was comfortable in her own skin and that’s not easy to do… especially with the inner critic always chattering in your head. Reminding you of all the ways you aren’t good enough - repeating the self-limiting beliefs that you learned early on in your life and have continued to believe.

Regardless of how you look on the outside – it’s who you are on the inside that truly determines your beauty. But here’s the kicker – who you believe yourself to be is who you will be. Which is why it is so very important to see your...

You Were Not Born to Hide

“The eyes are the windows to your soul.” - William Shakespeare

It has been said that the eyes are the window to your soul. Yet unfortunately, so many people wear masks to hide who they are that no one ever gets to see their true beautiful soul. And sadly, not only does no one else get to know the real them, but they often go through life wondering who they themselves are because they have lost touch with their own selves from spending so much of their lives wearing a mask and pretending to be someone they are not.

Has this ever been you? What mask are you wearing?

You may have begun wearing a mask for protection but who are you really protecting yourself from - the world around you or your own self? Are you trying to hide who you are or how you feel? Maybe you feel like you’re not enough as you are or won’t be accepted as you are. That can be tough, and I understand that sometimes it really does feel safer to put on a mask and pretend to be something you...
