âDo something every day that scares you.â â Eleanor Roosevelt
When was the last time you tried something new for the first time? I posed this question to my Tuff Chicks Group recently because I think it is important to try new things, be open to change, challenge yourself and of course, as the featured quote says, do something that scares you! Â
I was speaking with my own coach recently (Yes, coaches have coaches â the process works! So why wouldnât we?!?!) and was asked to rank how much I feel I challenge myself and to name something Iâve done lately that has pushed me out of my comfort zone. It was kind of interesting because at first I was being really hard on myself and then I began to think of several occasions recently when Iâd stepped out of my comfort zone to take a risk, learn something new and challenge myself big time with a huge project. Doing the exercise made me feel really proud, because stepping out of my comfort zone is something that I try to challenge myself to...
"The will to persevere is often the difference between failure and success."  ~David SarnoffÂ
When you hear the word persistence, what do you think of? For me, I like the way Josh Shipp describes it. He says, "Perseverance is stubbornness with a purpose." At first read, that is funny, right? But it also proves a valuable point. That sometimes what one person sees as a negative trait, another can see as a great quality.
I remember when I was a school counselor and I'd help students with their scholarship applications. Often they were asked to describe themselves. So I'd give them the directive to make a list of their qualities. Many struggled and they'd say things like, my parents think I'm stubborn, my friends think I'm bossy, my teachers think I'mâŚ
As for myself personally, I've been called stubborn on more than one occasion too. So now I know, that just means I'm persistent. đ Which, in the right context, can be a great quality. Being stubborn from an egocentric place is not a...
âSometimes life takes you in a direction you never saw yourself going but it turns out to be the best and most beautiful journey youâve ever taken.â
I read a short story once by Longtime Sesame Street writer Emily Perl Kingsley. It was something she had written to help people understand her experience of raising a child with disabilities, as her son was born with Downs Syndrome. She explains it as someone whoâs planned and planned to take a vacation to Italy, only to board the plane and land in Holland.
Imagine the surprise and disappointment you might feel when you realized youâd reached the wrong destination. All your preparation, studying the Italian language, mapping out your trip, creating your itinerary, researching your destination, were all lost. Time wasted. Now youâre somewhere you didnât want to be. At first you might not be able to look past the disappointment of not being in Italy to see what a beautiful place Holland was too. Yes, itâs different then you had planne...
âAlways bear in mind that your own resolution to succeed is more important than any other.â  ~ Abraham Lincoln
I had a woman schedule a strategy session with me last week who told me she was feeling like a real failure because she had âalready blown itâ for this year. See she had decided that this was going to be the year that she got her health back, cleared out the clutter in her house and stopped saying yes to everyoneâs demands of her. Yet after just a couple weeks she had found herself back in the old patters of unhealthy eating, not even starting on the house and pleasing others by overcommitting herself. Â
Hereâs the thing⌠the one resolution she hadnât made, was a resolution to succeed at the goals sheâd set for herself no matter what. Why is this important? Well quite simply because changing old habits isnât always easy. So, without the resolve to keep working at it, keep pushing yourself to recommit every day, it can be easier to just give up. And that is where she was...
âOur habits shape who we become and the results we create in the world.â ~ Lewis Howes
Iâve been writing all month about resolutions and how to create resolutions that work. But when it all boils down to it, keeping your resolutions is really about creating habits in your life that serve you to your highest potential and help you create the results you want.
Think about thisâŚ
We all have good and bad habits, right? When you think of habits, you might think of those that are easy to identify â such as good habits like brushing your teeth every day or bad habits like biting your nails. But have you ever thought about the fact that behaviors such as negative self-talk, procrastination, stress eating, hitting the snooze button, and even people pleasing are also habits? Likewise, things like scheduling and planning your day, being fully present with people, keeping a positive mindset or taking intentional breaks to improve your mental and physical energy throughout the day can also b...
âNever let a stumble in the road be the end of your journey.â â unknown
Will you be part of the majority that gives up on your resolutions or the minority that succeeds? I want you to succeed! Which is why these last couple weeks, Iâve given you some tips to succeed at making your New Yearâs Resolutions a reality this year.
But letâs face it, even though it sounds simple in theory, it can be tough because there are so many things that can trip you up and keep you from staying the course. That point is proven when you consider that statistics show less than 10% of the people who set resolutions actually keep them.
So today, I want to conquer some of the most common pitfalls that can sabotage your success and keep you from sticking with your resolutions.
âNew Yearâs Day is only the beginning⌠never forget the power in what you do with the other 364 days of the year. In each and every one of those days, you have the opportunity to create greatness, however big or small.â ~ Michelle Weimer
The new year has arrived and although nothing magically changed at the stroke of midnight on New Yearâs Eve, there is still a sense of hope that the new year always brings with it. A chance to hit the reset button and start with a clean slate.
So if last year left you disappointed at all, whether it was disappointment because the year didnât go as planned or disappointment in yourself because you didnât handle the year as well as you would have liked to, this is your time to hit that reset button and start anew. Because it stinks to feel disappointment. And even worse, is the sting of regret. We might not be able to control or change everything that is occurring in our world, but we can most certainly make positive changes to our lives. And in ...
âIf youâve ever felt like you had to be âSuperwomanâ to accomplish everything youâve set out to doâŚÂ Then itâs time to take off the cape and find your true power.â  ~ Michelle Weimer
In last weekâs Masterful Mindset, I mentioned that those who are People Pleasers also suffer from Superwoman Syndrome even though not all who suffer from Superwoman Syndrome are People Pleasers.
This comment may have had you scratching your head, as it did some of the other readers in my community because I got a handful of emails about it. They really didnât see a difference in the two. (Which likely indicates that they probably fall into the category of being both.) But I wanted to clear the confusion once and for all. So here goesâŚ
Iâve already given you the Ten Commandments of People Pleasers as based on the book, The Disease To Please: Curing the People-Pleasing Syndrome by Harriet B. Braiker, Ph.D. And in reviewing that list, you can easily see that people pleasers most often do what they do t...
âWith organization comes empowerment.â Â ~ Lynda Peterson
If you had a dollar for every task on your To-Do List, would you be a millionaire? If you are like most people (myself included) you probably have a million things you want to get done. But of course, the reality is that there are only so many hours in the day so you have to choose what will get your time. And if you read last weekâs post, you know that choosing how you spend your time is ultimately, how you spend your life. And that⌠is priceless; so you must choose wisely.
You must visualize your goals and prioritize your tasks. But once youâve done that, if you really want to spend your time well, youâve got to organize your day with maximum efficiency. So if you are someone that has a long To-Do List that never seems to end or you have a hard time staying focused and on task, its time you maximize your time and get more done in your day.
Last week I told you Iâd be writing more soon on helpful tips to organize your day...
"Don't call the world dirty because you forgot to clean your glasses."Â â Aaron Hill
Last week I talked about the importance of having clarity and focus when youâre setting goals and striving for success (no matter what area of your life you want it in). So this week I'm giving you Clarity and Focus Part 2âŚ
Let's refer back to my example of wearing glasses â last week I told you that for a long time I fought the fact that I needed glasses to see clearly. But once I started wearing them, I realized how much easier it made everything.
Admittedly, I still try at times to get by without them. But inevitably, when I donât have the clarity and focus that they provide, it always makes whatever Iâm doing difficult.
But what happens when you have your âglassesâ on and you still donât have clarity and focus?
Recently, I was trying to do something and my focus was blurred. My first thought was, âWhat the hell?â I mean, I had my glasses on, so why did I not have clarity and focus? Then I ...
