âGratitude is the healthiest of all human emotions. The more you express gratitude for what you have, the more likely you will have even more to express gratitude for.â Â ~unknown
Tomorrow is Thanksgiving here in the US, so of course I canât miss an opportunity to talk about the power of gratitude...
Research has shown that practicing gratitude regularly has a positive impact on not only your happiness and sense of well-being, but it actually has a positive effect on your health too. Thatâs pretty amazing for something that doesnât require anything more than some effort. No magic pill, no money needed, just a commitment to pause every day, be present and choose gratitude.
Which is why I started a gratitude practice for myself years ago where each day I journal about what I am grateful for. And I truly believe that as a result of keeping this simple practice going throughout the years, itâs transformed me into a more positive and hopeful person on the inside and itâs made me into ...
âLet us be grateful to people who make us happy, they are the charming gardeners who make our souls bloom.â ~ Marcel Proust
This week my daughters host their annual Friendsgiving celebration at our home!
I love listening to the hum of their voices talking and laughing. Itâs been a little quiet around here this year as both girls and all their friends are away at college. So, I do love when they all come home. And although their friendships will change as they each start to go their own way; the ones who give consistent effort to stay connected will be able to pick up right where they left off every time they get together.
I think about the friends I have - acquaintances, colleagues, family, my spouse, my daughtersâ friendsâ parents, my workout friends, my long-distance friends, my closest friends, old friends, new friends, potential friends⌠and on and on. All different levels of friendship and yet all hold value and a place in my heart. Maybe you can relate, when you stop to think ...
âMy mission in life is not merely to survive, but to thrive; and to do so with some passion, some compassion, some humor, and some style.â ~Maya Angelou
By now most schools are back in session and autumn is starting to whisper, âIâm on my wayâŚâ So as the smell of sunscreen is being overtaken by the scent of pumpkin spice, so too are our carefree feelings being overtaken by a sense of overwhelming tension.
This year being an election year there is a special weight coming with the changing of the seasons. I donât think I need to tell you that the weight of all the âheavinessâ our world and nation has faced over the last nearly 10 years, it can be a lot for many people to manage on their own. Â
Combine all these emotions with the usual feelings that most people face as the last quarter of the year comes tumbling in and itâs no surprise that so many people are feeling a crushing sense of exhaustion, hopelessness, and negativity. I mean, arenât we supposed to be starting new and fres...
âBe your best true you.â ~Michelle Weimer
My youngest daughter will be graduating from high school this weekend so I thought it would be nice to write a special note to her and all those graduating this year. Or for that matter, anyone who might be coming to the end of a chapter in their life and preparing to embark on a new one.
Then as I started to write, my eyes filled with tears⌠and my mind went blank. I honestly didnât know where to start. There was so much I wanted to say. And yet, I couldnât seem to find the words.
Deep feelings of happiness, joy and pride are mixed with sadness, worry and an odd emptiness. I was quickly reminded of the old saying, âI love you so much it hurts.â As my heart aches every time I think about her leaving for college. And yet, it is exactly what weâve raised her to do⌠to go off and be a strong, independent young woman.
So I hope you find value in my thoughts this week as I write this post to her. I think you will definitely see that it can ...
âSometimes we get so caught up in trying to accomplish something big, that we fail to notice the little things that give life itâs magic.â
I donât know about you, but I think itâs pretty easy to take for granted how important the little things in life really are. Iâm guilty of doing it at times and Iâm betting you are too. Think about itâŚ
How often do you take the time to acknowledge and appreciate the little things that bring magic to your life?
So many people think that if they could just make something big happen then their lives would be fulfilled. Whether that is getting a promotion, finding love or some other great destiny they have planned for their lives. Now donât get me wrong, those big things are awesome! And having goals to create the life you desire is always good. But what happens all too often is we focus so much on those big things that we forget to acknowledge and be thankful for the little things.
Without the little things, we would not enjoy the big things ...
"If the only prayer you say in your life is thank you, that would suffice."Â ~Meister Eckhart
Thanksgiving is always a time when we are reminded to be thankful for the blessings in our lives, so I didn't want to pass up the opportunity to begin this weekâs Masterful Mindset by telling you how truly grateful I am that you have chosen to allow me to be a part of your life. I value you as part of my community and am so thankful that we are connected.
Now, on to this week's thoughts:
I recently spoke at an event and shared some of the key concepts I live by, that have helped me create a life I can celebrate every day. One of those concepts is to live with gratitude and hope.
So, this week's quote is something that I often refer to in my own life because there are so many times when I am overflowing with how blessed I am, that prayers of gratitude are literally the only prayers I need to make. Â And likewise, there are some times when Iâm overwhelmed with hardships and worries so sta...
âThere are hidden blessings in every struggle. Be grateful for every blessing both hidden and apparent.â ~unknown
Years ago, I was speaking to a fellow coach who believed that hardships and tragedy are things we should embrace and even love. Now I will admit that I completely balked at that idea. I mean seriously, âlove tragedyâ? Nope. After all, Iâve experienced a lot of hardship and loss in my life and have worked with clients throughout the years who have endured tremendous struggle and unthinkable tragedy so I was not convinced that any of those things were something we could love.
But what IÂ do believe, is that although we might not be able to get to the point of loving what has happened, we can in fact look for the gift in those experiences and love those gifts. Because hidden in every experience we have â the good and the bad â there is a gift given to us. And if we can identify the gifts and be grateful for them, then we can turn them into empowerment for a better future.

âAnother day, another blessing and another chance at life. Take nothing for granted and think of every breath as a gift.â Â ~ unknown
As you know, if youâve been following along the past few weeks, Iâve been focusing this monthâs posts on Gratitude. Gratitude is a powerful thing. So much so that it can actually boost your happiness by up to 25%. So today, I want to explore the power of focusing on the gifts and blessings that we often overlook so that instead, we can make certain we take time regularly to look at them through the lens of gratitude. Â
It can be easy to take people, experiences, and things in our lives for granted. But to practice gratitude from a higher level of consciousness, we must not take things âfor grantedâ but rather see them âas grantedâ. This small shift in language creates a powerful shift in mindset and moves us from an attitude of entitlement to humility. And even if we donât like to admit it, an underlying sense of entitlement is actually the #1 thing...
âLet us be thankful to the people who make us happy; they are the charming gardeners who make our souls blossom.â ~Marcel Proust
If you live in the US, odds are youâre preparing for the Thanksgiving holiday tomorrow. Which can mean many different things for people. For some itâs no more than an excuse to eat and drink too much. Or a much-needed day off from work. But for most people, itâs a day to get together with family and friends to remember what we are most thankful for. And if youâre lucky, the two go together⌠the people youâre with are in fact what you are most thankful for. So, as we prepare for this day of thanksgiving⌠why not use this as a time for reflection and sharing with those we truly are grateful for.
Going back to the research Iâve been sharing with you over the last couple of weeks from Robert Emmons, who wrote the book Gratitude Works! I want to share another idea for how you can practice gratitude in a powerful way and in fact, share the gift of gratitude. ...
âIt is not joy that makes us grateful; it is gratitude that makes us joyful.â ~David Steindl-Rast
Last week I gave you an interesting statistic on the power of gratitude⌠I shared that people who have a gratitude practice of writing down at least 5 things they are grateful for once a week can boost their happiness by as much as 25% in as little as 10 weeks. Which is a compelling statistic in and of itself. But today I want to share a few more facts with you about the power of gratitude. (Just in case a 25% increase in happiness isnât enough to convince you that itâs worth it to have a gratitude practice.) đ Â
So Robert Emmons, who is one of the worldâs leading researchers on the science of gratitude along with his colleague Mike McCollough were the first researchers to discover the profound benefits of gratitude through their studies.
What they found was that people who regularly cultivate gratitude âexperience a multitude of psychological, physical, interpersonal, and spiritual...
