Guide to Setting Resolutions that Work

ā€œCheers to a new year and another chance for us to get it right.ā€ ~ Oprah Winfrey

Question:Ā We are a week into the new year, have you set your New Year’s resolutions yet? What are you waiting for? How do you intend to create a life you’ll love this year?

Action Challenge: It seems that setting new year’s resolutions have become a thing of the past for many. Most likely it’s because too many times people set them and they don’t work (more in another blog post about why that is). But what if you had a plan to insure they’d work?Ā

If the nagging feeling in the pit of your stomach - you know, the one that keeps reminding you of your past resolution failures - has been keeping you from setting your intentions for creating a life you’ll love, then get ready… because I’m here to tell you that this is the year for real change. And I’m not talking about just saying you are going to make some changes; I’m talking about taking action and really changing. Ā Ā

The First Step

Ā ā€œThe first step towards getting somewhere is to decide that you are not going to stay where you are.ā€ ~John Pierpont Morgan

How often do you find yourself dancing with indecisiveness about what your next steps or actions will be in your life? I will admit there have been times when I’ve felt stuck and hesitant to take a step forward into something new. The fear of uncertainty and failure can be paralyzing if you aren’t careful. But sometimes all it takes to move forward is the decision that you are ready to take that first step and the certainty of knowing that no matter where it takes you, you’re going to be alright.

I remember as a little girl growing up, my grandparents used to say, "Watch out for that first step. It's a doozy.", which I always thought was funny. But I was not lost on the fact that what they were actually saying, was to be careful because that first step could be tricky, difficult or even dangerous. And if you weren't careful, you could trip and fall. It was ...

The Little Things Give Life Magic

ā€œSometimes we get so caught up in trying to accomplish something big, that we fail to notice the little things that give life it’s magic.ā€

I don’t know about you, but I think it’s pretty easy to take for granted how important the little things in life really are. I’m guilty of doing it at times and I’m betting you are too. Think about it…

How often do you take the time to acknowledge and appreciate the little things that bring magic to your life?

So many people think that if they could just make something big happen then their lives would be fulfilled. Whether that is getting a promotion, finding love or some other great destiny they have planned for their lives. Now don’t get me wrong, those big things are awesome! And having goals to create the life you desire is always good. But what happens all too often is we focus so much on those big things that we forget to acknowledge and be thankful for the little things.

Without the little things, we would not enjoy the big things ...

Practical Guide to Personal Freedom

ā€œYou can only be you when you do your best. When you don’t do your best you are denying yourself the right to be you. That’s a seed that you should really nurture in your mind. You don’t need knowledge or great philosophical concepts. You don’t need the acceptance of others. You express your own divinity by being alive and by loving yourself and others.ā€ ~ Don Miguel Ruiz

Have you ever wished you had a practical guide that could tell you how to live a life of personal freedom in just a few simple steps? Would you commit to following it if you knew it could be that simple? Good news! It can be…

There’s a reason Don Miguel Ruiz’s book, The Four Agreements, spent over 10 years on the New York Times Bestseller List and sold nearly 7 million copies… It’s an inspiring book with a phenomenal message that offers a practical guide to creating personal freedom. Who wouldn’t want that kind of transformative information that could literally give them the freedom and power to become whomever ...

To Persist or to Persevere, that is the Question…

"Definition of Insanity - Doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result." ~ Albert Einstein

The action of being persistent can often mean you are doing the same thing over and over. Sometimes that can be good but sometimes, not so much. Take for example the analogy IĀ love to give my clients: If you keep putting the same ingredients in your cake, you will keep getting the same cake. If you want a different cake, you have to put in different ingredients. When being persistent with something, it's important to know when enough is enough and you need to try something new to reach your goal. Especially when that cake you're making is really not the cake you want to be eating at all! šŸ˜‰

The illusion that the ability to persist is always a virtue has caused people to stay in toxic relationships with people they don’t respect, put up with jobs they hate, and generally just continue to perform the same painful action over and over again, in hopes that it will

How Do You Show Up In The Face Of Adversity?

"Strength of character isn’t always about how much you can handle before you break, it’s also about how much you can handle after you’ve broken." – unknown

How do you show up in the face of adversity? Last week I had a conversation with a woman about her life and it shocked me. Her story of struggle was hard to imagine. She’s been through so much in her life and yet she’s warm, loving and kind. She’s resilient, faith-filled and strong. Even in spite of all that she’s going through. I would have never imagined she was in the middle of a lifelong storm.

The truth is, it’s easy to show positive character traits when everything is going good in your life but sometimes the best way to truly know a person is to see how they show up in the face of adversity.

Which is why I want to take our conversation from last week (about how easy it is to assess someone’s character traits by observing their actions) a step farther and add that how someone shows up in the face of adversity really s

Change Starts with You and Change Starts Now

ā€œBe the change you wish to see in the world.ā€ ~ Mahatma Gandhi Ā

Wouldn’t it be great if you could flip a switch and change the world? I’ve often thought about how nice it would be, to be able to rid the world of all negativities.

Of course, I know there’s no magical solution but what I do know is that there are a few simple concepts that, when practiced regularly, could change your life a bit for the better and perhaps the lives of others around you. And quite honestly, I think our world could use some change so why not let it start with each of us? Ā Ā

Before I go on, please know that this is not a political post, nor is it a declaration of me thinking I have the answers to change the world. It’s simply a viewpoint on a couple fun and simple steps we can all take to be better and be kinder. And no matter what your beliefs are, I would hope you always strive for kindness and to be your best. So please read on…

Your Relationship with Money

"Money and success don't change people; they merely amplify what is already there." ~Will Smith

HowĀ is your relationship with money? I’ll be honest, I haven’t always had the best relationship with it. I grew up with a father who was born during the Depression. He spent his whole life working very hard for very little. So I don't need to tell you that my own money storyĀ used to be one of lack and negativity. I've heard all the old sayings, many times:

>>> "Money doesn't grow on trees."

>>> "The rich get richer and the poor get poorer."

>>> And the one that really used to get me, "Money is the root of all evil."

Now my dad was well meaningĀ and I knew that his relationship with money was based on what he had experienced in his life. But I also knew I wanted a different relationship with money. I wanted to change my story. It took me many years and several lessons in abundance - but I still remember when it all really clicked for me...

I was sitting in my office after a long day ...

Clarity and Focus - Part 2

"Don't call the world dirty because you forgot to clean your glasses."Ā  – Aaron Hill

Last week I talked about the importance of having clarity and focus when you’re setting goals and striving for success (no matter what area of your life you want it in). SoĀ this week I'm giving you Clarity and Focus Part 2…

Let's refer back to my example of wearing glasses – last week I told you that for a long time I fought the fact that I neededĀ glasses to see clearly. But once I started wearing them, I realized how much easier it made everything.

Admittedly, I still try at times to get by without them. But inevitably, when I don’t have the clarity and focus that they provide, it always makes whatever I’m doing difficult.

But what happens when you have your ā€œglassesā€ on and you still don’t have clarity and focus?

Recently, I was trying to do something and my focus was blurred. My first thought was, ā€œWhat the hell?ā€ I mean, I had my glasses on, so why did I not have clarity and focus? Then I ...

Commit to Clarity and Focus

"Focus. Otherwise you will find life becomes a blur."Ā  – Anonymous

If you wear glasses, then you know how much easier life is when you have them on. Why? Because you haveĀ clarity and focus. Likewise, whenĀ youĀ haveĀ clarity and focusĀ aboutĀ life, it makes having a happy, successful life muchĀ easier too.

But I get it, life happens, you get busy and before you know it, life becomes a blur. With the new year beginning, it can be easy to scratch your head and wonder where the last year (or ten years) went. And then your vision for your desired future can become a struggle to see, especially if you have a difficult time staying focused on taking decisive actions toward achieving your goals. So if you're ready to admit that you might need some help getting clarity about the life you truly want to create and refocusing your efforts to get there so you can make this your best year ever, then it's time to commit to clarity and focus.

Now let me tell you a little secret... I don’t like to ad...
